The FSLF Kids; Roots and Shoots is the children’s arm of the Friends of the Seven Lakes Foundation for children ages 6-12. It was officially established in June 2003 in Canossa College, San Pablo City, Philippines. It was at this time that the FSLF mother organization affiliated itself with the Roots & Shoots International, which is the Jane Goodall Institute's international environmental and humanitarian program for young people based in the USA. The group also affiliated with the Philippine Society of Youth Science Clubs in September 2003. The FSLF Youth was then set up in 2005 for teens and young adults from 12 years and older. Since then, the FSLF Youth has affiliated with the Philippine Youth Environment Network and the Earth Day Network.
In just seven years, the FSLF Kids: R&S has successfully initiated or participated in various activities including bayanihan sa lawa (volunteerism for the lake), outreach programs, fieldtrips and exposure programs, mini camps and eco camps. In September every year, the FSLF Kids: R&S leads the community in the celebration of United Nation's International Peace Day by flying their giant peace dove during a peace parade or rally. The FSLF Kids and Youth have been featured in several Philippine tv shows - Real Stories of Hon. Loren Legarda on ABC-5, Keep Up The Good Work of Hon. Joey Lina on RPN-9 and Born to be Wild on GMA-7 and Kulilits on ABS-CBN. The children have also represented the school in various local and international children's workshops and conferences.
